Workshops

Teaching calligraphy online and live has allowed me to work with students worldwide. I spent countless hours giving calligraphy lessons and demonstrations, reviewing assignments, and refining my handouts. Besides workshops, I have been running calligraphy classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice for years. As a result, I established my teaching methods, which rely heavily on understanding calligraphic styles rather than only acquiring technical prowess.

Foundational Hand

During the workshop, I’ll teach you about this beautiful style developed by Edward Johnston (1872–1944), who based it on Carolingian minuscule and used it to teach calligraphy. For beginners, it’s an excellent entry point to the art of writing. Those with some experience will benefit not only from learning another style but will gain a deeper understanding of broad-edge calligraphy.

I’ll teach you how to build and correctly space the letters – from how to make basic strokes to letterforms and their variations. I’ll provide you with rich handouts, additional recordings, and homework exercises to practice. Finally, you’ll walk away with the skills and confidence to start writing your beautiful compositions!

When: The class consists of three online Zoom lessons that’ll take place on Tuesdays – 5th, 12th and, 19th December.
